A BRIEF HISTORY

Upendo daycare and Nursery was founded in March 2021 by Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Tumwijukye Rukundo. It is a product of the Covid19 pandemic which forced the couple to return to their home town Kamwenge from Arusha Tanzania with their children. Upon reaching home, they found all schools in Uganda closed and the first question on their mind was how their children would continue learning during lockdown. In their quest to find a solution to this challenge, they quickly realized that although schools were closed to prevent the spread of the virus, thousands of children spent their days loaming around the local streets and playing together. It was from this background that they decided to gather the children from the neighborhood in their house and find a teacher that would keep them busy learning. As parents appreciated the care and services their children were receiving, they encouraged the couple to keep the place open and when schools were finally allowed to open, Upendo daycare and nursery was officially born Today Upendo daycare and nursery employs 17 staff from the neighborhood; has close to 200 children; has a boarding section; has 7 classes from play class to primary three and is officially registered at district level. Upendo is undoubtedly the leading nursery school in Kamwenge town widely praised for great care of little children and quality education.
